PAS | Performance Art Studies #84 – CITY SYMPHONY

27 August – 3 September 2023
In Görlitz and Zgorzelec

PAS is collaborating with the stre!fen Performance Art Festival for the fourth time. After three successful PAS studies in 2020, 2021 and 2022 we continue the bonds and exchange that we have established to deepen site-specific performance art research.

An 8-day learning program offering a practical, in-depth dialogue with performance art practice in relation to site-specific approach combined with sound aspect. In a variety of experimental settings, we will explore this relation and create performance art works that bend given forms, expand space and engage the body.

The main topic of the collaboration between PAS and stre!fen is the site-specific approach to performance art practice, theory and philosophy. Since the start of this collaboration each PAS | Study is researching urban spaces on both sides of the German-Polish border that would create a resonance through performance art. With “City Symphony” we want to extend the site-specific performance research and combine it with the aspect of sound.

THE CITY IS THE CLASROOM

The focus of PAS #84 | CITY SYMPHONY is the site-specific and time-specific approach of performance art practice, theory and philosophy in close relation with the aspect of sound research. The border cities Görlitz and Zgorzelec will be our classroom and the center of attention of the artistic research which will lead to public performances at different spots in the cities – on both sides of the border. We will explore and discover the border cities by bike and by foot and research its historic, political, architectural and social potential for sound-based performance art purpose.
