Lena Czerwniawska

Lena Czerniawska is an illustrator, writer, performer, and improviser working at the intersection of visual arts and experimental music. Drawing lies at the core of her artistic practice, and she frequently employs drawing-based techniques in live improvisations, performances, and installations.

She studied Graphic Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław, where she developed her interdisciplinary approach to drawing and performance, and later worked as a teaching assistant in the Creative Drawing Studio. She has collaborated with artists from the experimental and improvised music scene and is a co-founder of the Macondo Collective in Wrocław. Her work has been presented internationally and often explores drawing as a way of observing, documenting, and interpreting reality.

She prefers searching to finding — inspired by Aglaja Veteranyi’s thought that “who finds has not searched well.”

Lena, as part of the aufZEICHNUNG section, will create live drawings documenting selected performances
