Emrah Gökdemir is a visual and performance artist as well as a visual researcher.
In 2010, he worked as production manager for the 2nd International Antakya Biennial. Since 2012, he has been working in the field of anthropology in collaboration with Prof. Yael Navaro from the University of Cambridge, conducting social anthropological research in the city of Antakya. Between 2020 and 2022, he was artist-in-residence at HALLE 14 – Centre for Contemporary Art in Leipzig and from May to July 2024 at the Goethe-Institut Thessaloniki. He is the director of the documentary film “What Do the Birds Say?”, which was filmed in Antakya between 2017 and 2023. His work deals with memory, loss, catastrophe, time, the unknown and social relationships. He currently lives and works in Leipzig.
