Adam Michálek is a Czech-based artist working and studying at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Brno. In his work he operates with media varying based upon the project itself, be it performance, installation, photography, text or garments and clothing.
He has long been exploring performance art, and its ways of communicating the artists‘ desires to the public; performing alone, in duos, in groups, 5 minute performances to 7 day performances, performing for the artist community or for the public, performing naked, in costume or in disguise. This carnal attitude then translates to his works in other media, where the spectator feels the presence of the artist even though he is long gone.
His themes of the continuous „coming of age“ cowboy saga reflect on the artists living their early years in Texas, US, and reflect on the topics of gender and technological binarity, societal acceptance, mental health, and often leaves their remarks in other works, using technology and animals as more than human elements. These signature elements then translate into other works, making the current focus of Michálek’s work the center planet and his often visual language the universe in which the planet is situated.
